Mt. Zion Baptist Church
What We Believe
Core Beliefs
The following are the core beliefs of Mt. Zion Baptist Church based on the foundational truths taught in the KJV Bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these Biblical Doctrines
The Holy Scriptures
We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old Testament and New Testaments to be the verbally inspired Word of God, the final authority for faith and life, inerrant in the original writings, infallible and God-breathed
(II Timothy 3:16; II Peter 1:20,21; Matthew 5:18; John 16:12,13)
The Godhead
We believe in one Triune God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, & Holy Spirit
(Deuteronomy 6:4; 2 Corinthians 13:14)
Jesus Christ
We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary and is our True God and True Man; that He is the only Savior of Mankind, and the proper object of our worship
(Romans 3:24; Ephesians 1:7; I Timothy 2:9; Hebrews 2:9; I Peter 1:3-5)
The Holy Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit is a person who reproves the world of sin, righteousness, and judgement; and that He is the supernatural agent in the regenerations, baptizing all believers into the body of Christ, indwelling and sealing them unto the day of redemption.
(John 16:9-11; II Corinthians 3:6; I Corinthians 12:12-14; Romans 8:9; Ephesians 1:13-14)
We believe that He is the Divine Teacher who guides believers into all truth; and that He is the privilege and duty of all saved to be filled with the Spirit.
(John 16:13, I John 2:20-27; Ephesians 5:18)
The Total Depravity of Man
We believe that man was created in the image and likeness of God, but that in Adam's sin, the race fell inherited a sinful nature and became alienated from God; and that man is totally depraved, and of himself, utterly unable to remedy his lost condition.
(Genesis 1:26-27; Romans 3:23-24; Ephesians 2:1-3,12)
Salvation
We believe that faith in the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, who died, was buried, arose from the dead, and was ascended to the right hand of the Father is the only hope of salvation that this faith is begotten through hearing the Word of God, wholly apart from human works that by a new birth one dead in trespasses and sins is quickened unto eternal life, made righteous, justified and is made a partaker in the Divine nature secure unto the praise of His glory.
(Ephesians 1:7; Revelation 1:5; Ephesians 2:8-9; II Corinthians 5:21, I Corinthians 1:30; Romans 3:21-26; II Peter 1:4)
